Illustrated Recipe in Get Spicy Book

I love children’s books, and how they use illustration to tell stories. Because of this I try to step out observational sketching, into drawing from imagination. I enjoy creating illustrated characters – both humans and animal and make them spring into action. There is so much to explore and so much to learn!
I mostly work with pen, ink and watercolours. More recently I learned to put hand-drawn elements together on the computer. It offers more flexibility as you can play with scale and layout and now I really enjoy working that way too.
I combine my interests in storytelling, illustration, hand lettering with my love of cooking to create hand drawn illustrated recipes (check those out on my illustrated recipes page).

I decided to follow Lisa Cogdon’s daily drawing challenge in September… Here are the results!
I like to use my illustrated recipes to experiment with layouts, hand lettering and new techniques. When I read about Penelope Dullaghan’s oil transfer technique, I decided it was time for a new illustrated recipe and an experiment.
When I’ve tried drawing animal characters, I never been happy with the results. So my recipes have stayed clear of animals. Here’s how a hen, a reindeer and a family of rabbits have crept in!
